Blake Vets Charity for 2015
Every year the Blake Veterinary Group staff choose a charity for the practice to support. In the past we have raised money for Hounds for Heroes and PetSavers. This year, we have chosen the Bridgwater branch of the Cats Protection. Cats Protection branches are run solely by volunteers who give up their spare time to raise money towards the care of unwanted and stray cats as well as looking after these cats and trying to find them a new suitable and loving home.
Cats Protection is the UK’s leading feline welfare charity. Their vision is a world where every cat is treated with kindness and an understanding of its needs. It’s an ambitious vision. However, Cats Protection truly believes it can be achieved by their passion, their professional approach and simply because cats are among the UK’s most popular companion pets. Cats Protection has simple and clear objectives to help cats:
Homing – Finding good homes for cats in need
Neutering – Supporting and encouraging the neutering of cats.
Neutering is a safe, painless way of controlling the cat population. It also helps reduce your household costs as caring for a mother and kittens is very expensive. Although some owners try and recoup this cost by selling kittens, there are already thousands and thousands of unwanted cats and kittens out there, we don’t need more! Many owners also find that kittens are harder to sell than they first thought. As the UK’s leading feline welfare charity, Cats Protection are involved in numerous neutering programmes, working with partner charities, local authorities and individuals to spread the word. If you need to neuter your cat and cannot afford the cost, Cats Protection may be able to help towards the cost through their means tested neutering scheme, if you are eligible.
Visit the Cats Protection website at www.cats.org.uk for more information.
Cats Protection helped 170,000 owners with the cost of neutering cats in 2012.
Information – Improving people’s understanding of cats and their care
Throughout the year Blake Vets holds events such as client evenings, open days and we have a second hand book stall at the entrance to the Bridgwater Surgery. All money raised from these events and sales will go to the Cats Protection in 2015.
